Google Analytics 4 tracks events instead of sessions. To measure your marketing properly, you need to mark the right events as key events (conversions).
1. Decide what matters
List the actions that show real business value — purchases, form submissions, calls or bookings.
2. Send the events
Use Google Tag Manager to send clean, consistently named events to GA4.
3. Mark them as key events
In GA4 admin, mark these events as key events so they appear in your conversion reports.
4. Test everything
Use DebugView and Tag Assistant to confirm each event fires once with the right parameters.
- Plan events before building
- Use consistent naming
- Test before you trust the data
